WEPA campaigns are ongoing community engagement, prevention and intervention processes. They are designed to engage, equip and empower the community to actively engage in issues that have been identified as social concerns and risks that create disparity and threaten the health and wellness of youth and families in the community. Our campaigns inform our continual engagement for creating change and surface valuable information from within our communities as we assess the impact and effectiveness of the implementations.
An evidence-based campaign that engages youth, local precincts and merchants in a proactive initiative to keep youth safe from underage drinking. The process utilizes retail store based engagement using attention-grabbing stickers to draw attention to the risks inherent in underage drinking. Sticker Shock boldly invites merchants, parents and other adults and older peers to commit to keeping our youth safe through compliance with underage drinking policies.
An opioid response campaign to eliminate the abuse of prescription drugs (often found in unused portions in medicine cabinets in our home) and alert parents to safe disposal of controlled substances. Deterra bags and safe disposal information postcards are distributed to pharmacists and prescribers encouraging the safe disposal of prescription drugs.
WEPA’s media and billboard campaign highlights the developing brain, and informs the community of the cognitive and health dangers of Cannabis use by adolescents.
Our WEPA Podcast Interview series navigates issues of prevention and discusses issues that put families and youth at
risk of substance abuse. We also share what families, friends and communities can do to prevent the probability of drug misuse and addiction. The goal of the podcast is to share that individuals do not have to face the challenges discussed in our videos alone. We show that we love hearing from viewers, and that we would love to help.
Our active social media presence is on Instagram @jubilantwepa. Whether inspiring quotes, interview snippets, community testimonials, humor or memes on sobriety and addition, we keep the community engaged, informed and
educated.
WEPA was birthed and founded by the Groundswell Group Inc., also based in the Bronx, New York. You can see the many other positive, social-impacting projects our founding organization is involved with, plus workshops and programs it offers, on Instagram @groundswellgroupinc or on their website at www.groundswellgroup.org.
A social change intervention; which utilizes photography and narrative to enable communities to represent themselves and tell their own story or focus a community around common concerns. Photovoice equips and empowers community engagement and invites elected officials to the community table for a collaborative change process.
Celebrates the power of our stories, perceptions and aspirations to bond us together to envision and co-create strong, vibrant communities where we live, learn, work and play. This project fosters opportunities for participants to learn together through sharing our stories in the shelter of one
another. We build trust, mutual support and participants are empowered by the collective wisdom and experiences of others to build strong, vibrant communities around our shared values, concerns and aspirations.
Through our mural projects, we use art as a collective community voice to speak to change, address social issues, challenge inequalities or injustices, and beautify underserved neighborhoods.
Crafting prevention messages from the perspective of our youth, is at the core of this collaborative initiative. WEPA’s forums, listening circles and other assessment tools revealed that youth don’t think adults are communicating to them in ways they value. In response, we want to hear our youth and learn youth-relevant ways to share the power of prevention. Our PSA is a learning collaborative that fosters intergenerational communication.
